Frank H. Tingley Chapter #5 mourns the passing of Bro. Larry Maughlin

1933 - 2025

It is an honour to announce;Bro. Larry McLaughlin has been awarded the tender for Electrical Services on the streets of Heaven. Larry began his career 92 years ago in Hillsborough where he was born on Washboard Lane to W. Ronald and Isobel (Bray) McLaughlin. He completed his formal education in 8 years so he could secure employment and support his family. As a teen he courted the prettiest girl he ever saw, Margie Welling. He perfected a wry smile and glittering eyes and won the young Nurses heart. Margie and Larry were married in Ottawa 69 years ago. Larry and Margie worked together and settled into, what remains to this day, the family home; where they raised 4 sons and one daughter, - Jeep (Janice), Steve (Stephanie), Tim (Diane), Glenn (Colleen) and Barb (Phil), Their children have blessed them with 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, so far.
Larry and Margie started Larry Electric Ltd 66 years ago. They have groomed 2 more generations of McLaughlin contractors to continue the earthly operations. Not one to remain Idle, seriously, not for a single moment in his entire life has he ever "sat idle", Larry dabbled in the Restaurant, Rental, Construction, Forestry, Maple Syrup, Farming, Motorcycle, Bee Keeping, Travel Trailer, Cotton Candy, Automotive, and heavy equipment business’. He was also Santa Clause’s right-hand man at Christmas Time. Basically, Larry could do ANYTHING he set his mind to and always welcomed any new challenge that would keep him moving.
Larry took great pride in keeping his children as active as he was. All 5 may have been raised in Moncton, but all, GREW UP, in Alberty County at the family camps in Alma and on Caledonia Mountain. Friday afternoons were always exciting times as the kids waited to find whatever adventure Larry would have them up to for the weekend. Be it rock picking, snowmobiling, fishing, wheeling, camping, hauling wood, moving buildings, or cutting and milling lumber, name it, and Larry knew how to do it well. He taught the kids the most difficult way to get anything done. Work was something to be enjoyed, not reviled. Larry and Margie provided amazing experiences for their children, and all 5 quite often express what a wonderful childhood they lived.
Larry knew to get this new electrical job in Heaven; he would have to be active here on earth. He spent a lot of time giving back to the communities that had blessed him. He believed in spending every day making the world a better place. He served 3 terms as Councillor at large for the City of Moncton, taking on responsibilities as deputy Mayor and acting Mayor. He was a long-time member, and past president of the Moncton Kinsmen Club, Moncton Rotary Club, Citation Indians Trailer Club, Perfect Circle chapter of FMCA, GMC motorhomes international, and the boys and girls club. He supported many churches and was a 50-year member of Acacia Lodge F & AM and life member of the Frank H Tingley chapter Eastern Star. It would be much easier to list the groups Larry was not active with.
As Larry takes on this new contract, he will be deeply missed by literally thousands of friends from all over the world that he held dear. Many are already at his new workplace waiting for him to get there and lend them a helping hand. Larry and Margie travelled extensively and changed lives of everyone they encountered. NO ONE was ever sorry to have Larry come into their life.
Larry looks forward to getting together with his four brothers, his dear mother, and his Best pals Pierce, Herman, and Bob. He hopes to have things set up properly for when Margie decides she has taught the grandkids enough.
He leaves behind a world that benefitted from him being in it, he will always be remembered for his strength of character, work ethic, sense of humour and his ability to play a great game of tag you’re it.
The family requests giving big hugs to your loved ones, and helping your neighbour in his memory.
