Sister Jennifer Bette Johnston (nee Plant), age 57, of Riverview, NB, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Maison Albert House Hospice, NB. Sister Jen is survived by her devoted husband Will, who was the love of her life. Jen is also survived by her loving sons Michael Johnston, Andrew (Katie) Johnston, Patrick Johnston, Spencer Carroll, and Rory Carroll; brothers Fred (Monica) Plant and Charles (Tara) Plant, sisters Dr. Cathy (Bryan) MacLean and Nancy (Dan) Pipes. Great niece Grace Henrichs was a special source of joy to Jen. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Betty Plant.
Jen was a veteran of the RCMP. She served in Regina, Montreal, Port Elgin and Moncton. She retired, having risen to the rank of Sergeant, after 30 years of dedicated service and was most proud of her work in Montreal’s organized crime unit and her key role in establishing the RCMP’s call back unit in Moncton. She was an active Rotarian and a member of the Greater Moncton Sunrise Rotary Club.
A cherished lifelong friend to many, Jen was the friend that told you the hard truth with a soft shoulder. Jen’s life is a legacy of love. She disliked conflict and preferred a role of mediator and consensus builder. Jen knew how to find the middle ground, and if empathy and understanding weren’t effective, she would re-establish the peace with a string of expletives that could stop a train. Jen was "Switzerland".
Will and the boys were the centre of Jen’s world. Jen and Will met in July 2008, were married five years later to the day and a new family was formed. Jen was our heart, our soul, our centre. Jen was a woman of tremendous character and strength. She fought cancer for 20 years with incredible grace and an indomitable spirit. Every day Jen would say, "I’m so grateful." And so too were we all incredibly grateful for her.
Jen’s family sends their respect and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sarah Ironside, the Moncton Hospital Oncology and Palliative Care Units, and the staff at Maison Albert House Hospice. We are so thankful for your care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jen’s memory to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital (Oncology or Palliative Care) or to Maison Albert House Hospice.
A celebration of Jen’s life will be held at a time and place to be decided later. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview (869-2007). Please check there for future updates.
