Florence ( Fonnie) Kuhn,
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Florence “Fonnie” Kuhn. Surrounded by family, she passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4th, 2025 at the age of 91.
Florence Alice Hazel McLean was born on February 14, 1934, near Windsor NS to Herbert and Ethel. Fonnie grew up in the iles de la Madeleine alongside her brothers, Lewis and Herbert. It was there, through a chance encounter that she met the love of her life, Ebby. They were married in 1958 and began a love story that lasted 67 beautiful years.
Fonnie trained as a registered nurse but lovingly chose to dedicate her life to raising her three sons; Darrell, Blair, and Kent. A true people person, Fonnie was always up for a cappuccino and a good chat. It was a bonus if you had a deck of cards, she was always ready for a friendly but fierce game of crib or bridge. Always willing to lend a helping hand, a listening ear or a warm hug, Fonnie was loved by everyone who was fortunate enough to meet her.
Family was everything to her. She cherished her role as a mother, but being “Nana” brought her the greatest joy. Whether it was sleepovers, cheering on from the sidelines, or baking together, she poured her heart into every moment with her grandchildren. She enjoyed her later years as a snowbird, escaping the cold Canadian winters for sunshine. She spent her summers at the family camp where happy hour by the fireside became a cherished tradition.
Sister Fonnie leaves behind her loving husband of 67 years Everett “Ebby” Kuhn, PGP; her sons Darrell (Denise) of Moncton, Blair (Anne) of Taymouth, and Kent (Kelcy) of Hartland; her six adored grandchildren; Nadyne (Denis), Samantha (Jenny), Kyle (Melissa), Christopher (Jasmine), Tory and Cam; and five great-grandchildren (Myles, Ava, Damien, Henry and Wyatt) whom she loved dearly. Sis. Fonnie was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Ethel and her brothers Lewis and Herbert.
Her memory will live on in the stories we share, the recipes we pass down and the laughter around the crib board. Though she may be gone from our sight, she remains forever in our hearts. Fonnie’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Nashwaak Villa for their compassionate and attentive care in her final years. Thank you also to friends and extended family for their support at this difficult time.
A graveside service will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens,1177 Salisbury Rd., Moncton, NB on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 1:30 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the professional care and direction of Fergusons Riverview Funeral Centre, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Riverview, NB, E1B 1V6, (506-857-9544).
