
Joseph Fisher Holmes, PGP of New Brunswick of Four Falls, NB passed away Wednesday June 18th at home with family including Princess by his side. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born in 1933 at his home in Beechwood, NB, son of the late William and Myrtle (Tracey) Holmes. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Sister Leitha Holmes, PGM of New Brunswick. He is survived by his 8 children, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; 3 sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur baby Princess.
Joe married Sister Leitha in 1953 and started their family in Beechwood before moving to Four Falls to build their home and complete their family. Joe worked various jobs and in 1962 he began his career as a bus driver and worked for 32 years for the district as well as working at 40 Acres Service Station in the evenings and weekends. After retirement he and Leitha enjoyed many years travelling throughout Canada and the United States. Active in the Eastern Star they travelled extensively on the Star Trails attending meetings.
Anglican by faith, Joe was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Church, Four Falls for most of his life and remained a caregiver of the cemetery until his 91st year. He was a member of Benjamin Lodge # 31 Perth-Andover as well as member of the Eastern Star Victoria Chapter # 1. He was a member of Electa Chapter # 9 where he served as Worthy Patron several times. He served as Worthy Grand Patron for the province of New Brunswick from 1994-1995 with Brenda Taylor as his Worthy Grand Matron during the “Christmas In July” Session
A Masonic Service was held on Tuesday June 24 at O’Regan’s Funeral Home in Grand Falls, NB followed by an Eastern Star Service. His funeral was held on Wednesday June 25, 2025 from Trinity Anglican Church in Perth-Andover with Rev. Harold Boomer officiating. Interment took place at the St. John The Evangelist Anglican Cemetery in Four Falls.
