Windton Churchil No. 19 mourns the passing of Sister Mabel Spence

Mabel Marie (Black) Spence, 81, of New Horton passed away on September 4th, 2024 suddenly at her home. She was born in Alma on October 17th, 1942 the daughter of the late Matilda May (Black) Barbour and step-father, Wallace Barbour.
Mabel was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia and worked at the Riverside-Albert branch until her retirement. She was always joking around and laughing. She was very community minded. Mabel was a member of the Fundy Curling Club and could sweep that old straw broom like nobody else.
Sister Mabel was a member of Winston Churchill Ch.#19, Order of the Eastern Star. She played cards with the girls, and could always be found playing darts, usually hitting a bullseye. She was always up for a good time.
Mabel was close to her mom and they had a special bond, she was her caretaker and made sure her mom was well looked after. Later in her life she felt fortunate to marry her husband Kenneth "Frank" Spence and together until his passing in 2020, they lived a very happy and great life together. Frank's family became hers. She was an only child so she really enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. She had several cousins and they were close. She will be missed by all Frank's family and by her several cousins and all their families.
Mabel in her later years always kept up on everything going on by her daily calls to her cousins and friends. She could spend hours on the phone checking in. She had a special place in her heart for animals and especially her cat, Star, and spoiled her. Mabel will be remembered for her great smile, her laugh and always being there when needed.
Honouring her wishes there will be no visitation or star service. A graveside service will take place in the Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB, at a later date.
For those who wish donations to the Hopewell Cemetery or charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H-3K2. 506 734-2780
