It is with great sadness that we announce that Bor. John passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, July 26, 2024. Born Aug 19, 1937, in Shediac Cape, he was the son of the late Roy and Jessie (Stright) Murray.
John is survived by and lovingly missed by his wife of almost 67 years, Sister Anne (Bateman). He is sadly missed by his children Ellen Whiting, Reg (Tina), Scott (Karen), Sharon (James) Wolthers and Marty. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, John (Sarah), Ted, Krystal (Luc), Kyle (Brittney), Jessica, Ben, Nick (Erin), Candace (Jordan), Wesley (Emma Lee), Chelsey (Jean), Samantha (Olivier), Mackenzie (Stephanie), Rebecca (Connor), Jorja Raye, 14 great grandchildren and his sister and brother-in-law, Erminie and Leigh Mollins, brother-in-law Jim Mollins, sister-in-law Lillian (Cary) Risley and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by grandchildren Chesley and Catherine, sisters, Muriel Connors, Helen Bateman and Sylvia Mollins.
John was an electrician with CN for over 37 years. He was the captain of the CN St. John Ambulance Team and led his team to win a National Competition. He was a volunteer and Training Officer with St. John Ambulance in Shediac and received a medal from the Govern-or General in Ottawa. As a young man he was a Scout Leader, coached Minor hockey, served as vestryman and warden at his church.
Bro. He was a member of Zetland Lodge # 24 of the Masonic Order of Free and Accepted Masons for 59 years, serving as Past Master, DDGM of the Province of New Brunswick, member of the Scottish Rite and the Order of Scotland. As a member of Easter Star Zetland Chapter #26 he served as Past Patron multiple times. Bro. John served as the Grand Patron of NB, with Sis. Donna Allen in 2004-2005. He was appointed as a GGCCM of Public Relations Committee for 2015-2018 for the General Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Bro. John and Sis. Anne loved to travel having visited Canada, the US, England, Scotland, France, western Europe, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil. His favourite spot was his own backyard with his bees. He was a beekeeper for 50 years and loved to build his own hive equipment. Woodworking was a beloved hobby, and he loved to tinker with his own designs. Visiting with his grand and great grandchildren put joy in his heart. He was a quiet, faithful and loving man who was generous with his hugs and woke up with a song in his heart every day.
Both visitation and the funeral will be at St Martin’s in the Wood Anglican Church, Shediac Cape. Visitation was Wednesday July 31, 2024, with Masonic and Eastern Star Services in the evening. The Funeral Service was held from the church on August 1 @ 2pm..
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Anglican Parish of Shediac or the donor’s charity of choice.
