Edgar McGibbon passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, surrounded and held by his loving, heartbroken family. He spent his last weeks being cared for by his family, who were determined for him to be in the comforts of his home where he could have his loyal cat Chrissy snuggled up next to him and watch the hummingbirds feed outside his window.
Edgar gained a reputation for his integrity, diligence, and work ethic as a businessman. He worked tirelessly, alongside his beloved wife Brenda, operating McGibbon Industries Ltd for 32 years. He was known for being hardworking, fair, and honest. He provided employment to many individuals over the years. Prior to taking the leap to entrepreneurship in 1976, he worked as a cutting inspector for Georgia Pacific from 1969-1976. From 1966-1969 he worked in Blackville, where he met the love of his life, Brenda. In 2008, he and Brenda made the decision to retire, however you would never have known it, as he continued to work tirelessly cutting a "twitch or two" of wood most days of the year, and entertaining many friends, sipping a drink of Crown Royal, around his warm fire at the garage at the end of the day.
As devout as Edgar was to his work, his family was his pride and joy. He loved his family fiercely and would do absolutely anything for them. He always had words of wisdom and advice to bestow upon them and they are left to treasure every conversation. He listened to every word said, right up to the end, and his family knew they would be questioned properly if they heard, "wait now, back up a minute."
Edgar loved his community of Moores Mills, the unofficial mayor of the small community for many years. He loved his neighbours and was always the first on hand to assist them in time of need or anticipation of need.
Edgar never left anything unsaid, he lived life with no regrets, he gave his love unconditionally to his family, and they returned that love to him best, and are proudly known to all as Edgar’s wife, Edgar’s son, Edgar’s daughter, and Edgar’s grandchild.
Survived by his wife Brenda (Stephens) McGibbon, son Stephen McGibbon (Kari Eales), daughters Kathy Woodside (Jody) and Susan Moffatt (David); grandchildren Casey (Robbie), Ryan, Marley (Nick), Seth, Sadie, Gibbon, Adelaide; great-grandchildren Sophia and Sawyer; brother Craig McGibbon, sister Mary Lou McGibbon, several nieces and nephews, countless friends and his precious cat Chrissy.
