Fidelity Chater #5 mourns the loss of Bro. Vern Ward

With heavy hearts, the family of Vernon M. Ward announce his passing at the Moncton City Hospital on March 21, 2021. In the summer of 1932, Vernon was born to Raymond and Edna Ward (née Lyonds) in Harcourt N.B., then he moved to Gunningsville where he met his future wife, Loris E. Ward (née Walker).
While he excelled at drafting at Moncton High School, he pursued his greater passion for sales. He learned the ins-and-outs at Swift's then started his own ventures with Vernon Ward Sales, Dixie Dairy Bar and Take-Out, and Ward Foods. In that career, he accumulated plenty of epic tales like Loris typing Vern's orders on the telex or pushing his car up a hill on the way back from a sales trip to Fundy. When he wasn't running meats or cheeses, he would spend his time serving the community with the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and at Eastern Star with Loris. Sometimes he'd even get to enjoy fishing/hunting trips with his brothers-and-father-in-law.
When he eventually decided to retire, he did it in the way only he could. He enjoyed driving to their winter place in Florida to get some needed R-and-R with his wife or golf with his buddies. He also spent time enjoying the cottage in Cape Brule, tinkering around in his workshop. He was always working hard and playing hard. Like clockwork, he'd be sure to take a break to sip some red wine and enjoy hor d'oeuvres or a medium-rare steak.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 67 years Loris, children Philip (Leanne) and Susan, grandchildren Collin (Brittany Hicks) and Kate Ward as well as Ben (Emily Edwards) and Lauren Hollis. Not to mention his Brothers-in-Law Richard and Charles Walker plus his many, many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Edna Ward, his parents-in-law Fred and Helen Walker, his brothers-in-law Alan and Fred Jr. and son-in-law Gary Hollis.
The family wants to extend a thank you to the medical professionals that helped him in his courageous battle including Oncology Clinic nurses Lisa and Wendy in addition to Morgan, Sarah, and Lisa on the 4200 floor.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held as per his wishes. Arrangements entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canada Shriner's Hospital. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
