Granite Chapter # 15 mourns the death of Sis. Doreen Young

Doreen Young (89), loving daughter of William Jr, and Elsie (Turley) Bradbury, passed away in her home in Alexandria, Ontario August 22, 2020 with family by her side.
Born in Toronto, Ontario in March 1931, she was raised in Bay Roberts, NF (1932-1941) and Whitney Pier, NS. A faithful follower of Christ, Doreen attended the Salvation Army and United Church, taught Sunday school and played the Cornet and French Horn.

A strong, independent hard working woman her entire life, Doreen didn’t slow down for much over the years, including her 5 battles with cancer, the fifth battle she lost. Doreen spent most of her working life in the Restaurant business and owned her own diner for a brief time in Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario. Volunteering was a big part of her life mainly through her church work and she could always be counted on to help those in need. She organized donations for the 1986 Winisk flood and created several beautiful hand knitted and crochet items for nonprofit organizations. She gave baby bonnets to the IWK children’s hospital in Halifax as well as local hospitals and shawls for seniors.

A life member of the Order of Eastern Star she held many positions, including the Worthy Matron of Queen Mary Chapter #4, and Grand Representative of Vermont in New Brunswick and Montana in New Brunswick. She held dual memberships at Granite Chapter #15 and St Stephen Chapter #8.

She will be sadly missed by her brother Norman Bradbury (Donna), her children, Judy Pyke (Yvon), Eddie Pyke (Deb), Karen Pyke, Bill Young (Karen), Heather (Young) Ruttenberg (John), several grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, her nephew Grant Bradbury (Sadie), her niece Diane and her best friend Norma.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband Arthur Young (1993), brother Bill Bradbury (2012), daughter Nadine (Pyke) Campbell (1974) and granddaughter Sarah Young (1987)

We ask that in lieu of flowers please donate to your local Cancer Society in her honor/memory.
